.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 543 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026
- Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM for portions of
northwest and north-central Oklahoma.
- Low chances of thunderstorms across far western Oklahoma during
the evening hours through mid-week; strong winds possible.
- Near-record warm low temperatures possible for many locations
this week.

.NEAR TERM...
(Rest of today and tonight)
Issued at 138 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026
Another hot summer day is ongoing across Oklahoma and western-
north Texas, with widespread >100-105 F heat indices likely
through early this evening. While a breezy south-southwest wind
may offer some "relief", those planning time outdoors should make
sure to take precautions. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until
8 PM this evening for portions of northern Oklahoma, where recent
heavy rainfall is locally maximizing humidity and resultant heat
indices.
The region remains on the southeast periphery of a deep upper trough
across the western CONUS. While the best synoptic lift remains
displaced to the north, hot/well-mixed conditions and a weak dryline
circulation should yield scattered convection across the Texas
Panhandle over the coming hours. Once again, it appears that
most/all activity will dissipate prior to crossing the 100th
meridian, though some residual strong wind potential may move into
far western Oklahoma after 6 PM this evening.
As will be the case for much of the upcoming week, don`t expect too
much temperature relief overnight, with early morning lows in the
upper-70s to low-80s. The potential for matched or exceeded "warm
low" records remains in play, especially across Oklahoma.

.SHORT TERM...
(Monday through Tuesday night)
Issued at 138 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026
A fitting title for the forecast early next week would be "Rinse
and Repeat", with hot daytime conditions, very low evening storm
chances across the far west and potentially record-setting (warm)
early morning temperatures.
Locally targeted heat headlines will be possible, especially for
far north-eastern portions of the area, as the axis of deep
moisture transport shifts eastward with time. There is also signal
that storm risks may inch slowly eastward (into more of western
Oklahoma) with time into next week, as the upper pattern begins a
slow transition and we experience greater influence from Western
U.S. troughing.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Saturday)
Issued at 141 AM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026
The heat continues with very low rain chances. High temperatures and
heat index values are forecast to gradually increase towards end of next
week and into next weekend with heat index values of at least 105 degrees
forecast to return to a few locations on Thursday and becoming more widespread
by Saturday. The GFS & European models indicate isolated showers and
thunderstorms by evening of July 4th for parts of northwest/western
Oklahoma, but the ensemble blend keep chances very low for now.

(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 543 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026
VFR conditions to continue.
Some high clouds expected overnight and during the day Monday.
Otherwise gusty south winds expected throughout the forecast

increasing again overnight. Even with the gusty winds overnight,
llws will be an issue across much of central and northern OK
terminals.
